OPENING DAY DEMONSTRATION & ACTIVITIES
Opening Day, Monday March 31, 2008
"Progressive" Field,
E. 9th Street Gate C
100 ft.
North of the Bob Feller Statue on the Grass Area
1PM
There is nothing "Progressive" about RACISM
Join the American Indian community, supporters and other people of
conscience in our continuing fight against racism in Cleveland.
Since 1973 Cleveland AIM has filed lawsuits and demonstrated against racism in Cleveland baseball, and its degrading depictions of native people, saying simply:
CHANGE THE CLEVELAND BASEBALL TEAM NAME & LOGO.
Since 1973 we have been told repeatedly - and not only by baseball fans - that racism has a
large, comfortable home in Cleveland.
Now we are being told that this same institutional racism is "Progressive" when in reality it is insulting, shameful and backward.
Is it really progressive to place profits before people? Our fight for
basic dignity continues in Cleveland.
Shame on you PROGRESSIVE!
CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH
January 2008

highlighting the little-told stories of Africans and the positive
relationships formed with American Indians in the fight against
colonization and slavery. The events are as follows:
The events span four days and locations vary. All locations are in
Oberlin, Ohio.
The first two events are showings of DVDs, and the last two events
are presentations by William Loren Katz,
author of award-winning classics "Black Indians", "The Black West" and
"Black Women of the Old West."
All events are free and open to the public. A list of event dates and times is available.
Download the event flyer
(in Adobe PDF format).
These events are sponsored by the Oberlin Heritage Center in
partnership with the American Indian Movement Cleveland Autonomous
Chapter, the John Mercer Langston Institute, the Oberlin Chapter of the
NAACP, Oberlin College Department of History , Oberlin College Office
of the President, the Oberlin Area Cooperating Ministries, and others
community organizations and individuals. In-kind support also provided
